September has been designated Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. For more information on each, please continue reading.
September is Recovery Month
This year Faces and Voices of Recovery along with many others celebrate Recovery Month in September. Recovery month is a time to celebrate the change and improvements made by those in recovery and increase knowledge and understanding about mental health and substance use. Recovery month also helps bring awareness to recovery practices, the recovery community, and the everyone involved that makes our recovery communities successful and strong. Recovery allows people to live rewarding and healthy lives. Last year’s theme has become the ongoing tagline for the campaign – Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has designated September as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Organizations in the field celebrate this month as a time to raise awareness about suicide and reach out to others to let them know they are not alone and help is available. Suicidal thoughts can impact anyone. This month helps not only shed some light on the topic of suicide but connect people to available resources for prevention, treatment, and further discussion. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) celebrates National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week September 4-10, 2022 to further spotlight this issue. For more information visit the following: NAMI AFSP If you or a loved one needs help visit the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or dial 988 As always, for an emergency please dial 911 or your local emergency hotline.
